Sing Hee
For this project, I redesigned a local restaurant’s website to strengthen its online presence and boost audience engagement. I started by developing user personas to understand key audience needs and behaviors. Guided by these insights, I created a modern, user-centered design that enhances brand visibility and provides a seamless browsing experience.
Design Challenge
The purpose of this project was to explore how design thinking principles can be applied to support and enhance the digital presence of local businesses within the community.
Personally I love food, so I chose a known local chinese restaurant named Sing Hee.
Touching Base With the Community
I began the project by analyzing the restaurant’s target audience and customer base to better understand their behaviors and expectations. I mainly did this by speaking with staff at the restaurant and to various frequent customers. I gained valuable insights into what worked to promote more business, what customers enjoyed, and what areas could use improvements. I then translated this information into user personas.
Overall this research revealed several key needs. Customers wanted a promotionor discount system for consistent visits, a more seamless mobile ordering experience, an integrated call feature, and a clearly organized, accessible digital menu.
Wireframing & Prototyping
After reviewing all the research I believed that a better digital presence was a great place to start to address these requests. I then moved into the wireframing and prototyping phase. For inspiration, I analyzed local competitors and examined digital trends from platforms such as Uber Eats and DoorDash, focusing on usability, layout, and customer engagement strategies.
Project Reflections
Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of how user research and design strategy work together to create meaningful digital experiences. By analyzing audience needs, competitor trends, and usability best practices, I learned how to balance business goals with user expectations. This experience also strengthened my skills in wireframing, prototyping, and responsive design.
Some elements I initially struggled with were creating components and variables in Figma. Although not immediately intuitive, with practice I developed a stronger understanding of how to use these tools to maintain design consistency and improve workflow and navigation.
